Katherine Dyer was born in Merton, Oxfordshire, one of four daughters of John Doyley, a scion of an aristocratic family. She appears to have been privately educated and in 1602 married Sir William Dyer who died in 1621. They had seven children, one of whom died in infancy.
She is known only for My Dearest Dust, the epitaph she wrote for her husband’s monument in the church of St Denys in Colmworth, Bedfordshire, where she herself and her children are also buried, she never having remarried.
