Henry Constable was educated at St. John's College, Cambridge and after graduating in 1580 spent many years in Paris where, as a convert to Catholicism, he felt safer.
He wrote a volume of sonnets, Diana, which was published in 1592. Following his return to England he was briefly imprisoned and in 1610 left the country for good, dying in Liège. Constable's poetic style is dignified and courtly.
